ULM Dental Hygiene Student
On February 15th, 2020, this special photo was taken of me. My classmates and I had our white coat ceremony and it was a memorable day for not only us, but also our family and loved ones. This photo represents a massive milestone in my life; it was the beginning of my professional duties. The white coat symbolizes authority and professionalism and I was very eager to start! However, clinic was postponed due to the pandemic. This was a very difficult time due to losing hours of clinic, not meeting the requirements for the spring, and much more. We continued to push through and finish out our classes online for the spring. In addition, our May course got cancelled due to high numbers of COVID-19 cases rising. Over the summer, our instructors and program director kept us up to date. We got approved and came back for classes and clinic on July 1st, 2020. It was exciting but extremely nerve-wracking because we had lost so much time in clinic but I never once doubted the process. Fast forward to the end of July, we finished our requirements for the spring AND the summer with a bang! I am overwhelmingly proud of my classmates, instructors, and I for getting through this together. Needless to say, if someone were to tell me all of this would have happened after this photo was taken, I would have laughed!
